This is the wedding cake that my sister, Adrienne, helped me with. She made almost all the roses to go around the cake, bless her heart. :) I never would have finished without her help! Everything else was hand painted on the cake. The bottom two layers were styrofoam and the top layer was real cake so the bride and groom could save it for their 1 year anniversary.
The wedding flowers were Peonies, so when I googled Peony wedding cake, I came across this pretty little cake... Below is my take on this cake - the bottom two tiers were Styrofoam and the top was vanilla cake and the whole thing was covered with vanilla decorator frosting like my mom used to make. :) The cake was fairly easy to do with the messier frosting technique, and I think once I got the flowers on it, it turned out pretty good (especially considering this was my 2nd wedding cake ever!). The final picture is of the cake and cupcakes at the reception site, I thought it all looked very nice once it was all put together!
The big weekend finally arrived! Several months ago my cousin asked if I would make cupcakes and a cake for her wedding and I happily said yes! :) She chose the flavors of coconut cream, cherry almond vanilla, orange creamsicle and chocolate with vanilla frosting. I needed to make 27 dozen, which was 324 cupcakes, plus I made another 2 dozen Snickers cupcakes for another family member. Here are some pics of the cupcakes. I ordered a silicone flower mold online a few weeks back and made a flower for each cupcake out of gum-paste and then brushed them all with pink Luster Dust to give them some shimmer, it was a bit time consuming, but the end product was worth it! Here's a picture of them all packed up to go - my mom got these HUGE boxes from her work and they were PERFECT! At the reception, each flavor of cupcake was on a separate cupcake stand and then there was a mixture on a stand on either side of the centerpiece cake.
I got asked to do this cake from a coworker for a going away party/retirement party. I had never heard of Big Boy Burgers before, so Google was quite helpful! :-) It was a marble cake with vanilla butter cream. Once again, I finished this cake at night, so the picture isn't the greatest (obviously!), but you get the idea!
T-10 days til the BIG wedding cake/cupcake making weekend!! 325 cupcakes and a centerpiece cake -- Lord help me! LOL. I can't wait to make them and show you all pictures!! :) I got asked to do this cake for a friend of a friend for her wedding. She initially wanted me to do all the cakes for her wedding, but since I am not licensed, I wasn't able to do so. I suggested doing a fake cake for the centerpiece instead of spending a ton of money on a real one, and that way she could just get sheet cakes, cupcakes or whatever else for the guests to eat. We had one at our wedding almost 10 years ago and no one knew the difference, and by looking at this cake, I am pretty sure you couldn't tell if it was edible or not, either! :) I also did the floral arrangement for the top and put together the ribbon and rhinestones to go around the tier bases. I hope to get a picture from the bride of the cake in the venue, and if I do I will post it on here, too. :)
I finished this cake this morning for a groom's supper cake tonight, I wanted to do a different twist on a fishing theme, something not so "cutesy" but yet theme appropriate. I think it turned out well. It's chocolate cake with snickers in the batter with a layer of carmel buttercream and snickers chunks in the middle and covered with more carmel buttercream. The "fishing lures" I made out of gum paste and painted them with food coloring, the bobber is an actual bobber I picked up at a store. (Don't worry, it's brand new, never used.)
